If you’re planning on recycling your old computer, there are a couple of things to keep in mind before sending your old equipment away. If your computer is less than five years old, it can be donated to a local charity or school. Anything older is better off being recycled.
If you plan on donating, it’s a good idea to send your computer to a refurbisher first. Refurbishers can wipe your hard drive of all personal information and files and make sure your old computer can run current software. At little or no cost, a refurbisher will be better equipped to repair and upgrade computers and pass it on to those who need it.
eWaste Direct partners with certified hard drive data erasing services to ensure that your information is completely removed before your computer is recycled.
Remember to also include all accessories (mouse, keyboard, cables, etc.) and software discs. Some charities might not be able to afford additional software and accessories and others only accept whole systems. Be sure to include the licenses too for all software and the operating system.
