Green Home ImprovementsCreate a green lifestyle at home that not only saves energy and environmentally-friendly, it can save you cash too!

Often people think it costs too much to be green. There’s a balance that every household needs to choose that fits their budget and their beliefs. You may even find green solutions that actually save you money in the long run.

For example, you can schedule an electronic waste pick-up for free! There’s no cost to you, it helps the environment and you can clear your home of clutter.

Most home improvements will require an investment in the beginning. However, there may be ways to reduce your costs and might make them free for you as well. Here are three categories to research for tax breaks, rebates and discounts to offset these costs.

  1. Government Incentives
Research if you’ll receive tax breaks and/or rebates from your local, state and the U.S. government for energy-efficient home improvements or purchasing energy-efficient appliances. Some cities even provide low-flow shower heads for free!
  2. Insurance
Ask your insurance agent if you receive discounts for green home improvements and purchases. They may provide discounts on your insurance or have partner programs with that give you a discount with partner stores or vendors.
  3. Refinancing or Home Equity Lines
This can also be the perfect time to refinance your home when interest rates are low. Contact your mortgage broker for a complimentary evaluation to see if this is a viable option for you.

Do check with your financial planner or accountant to help you make the best financial decision for you and your family. It may be possible to not only save money, but to help protect the environment as well.
